Editorial Process Overview
Stage 1
Account & Submission
- Writers must create a Formosa Review account before submitting their work.
- After creating an account, writers may submit their piece through the submission portal.
- The editorial team will receive and acknowledge the submission by email.
Timeline: acknowledgement within a few days of submission
Stage 2
Editorial Screening & Review
- The editorial team screens the submission for fit, originality, and baseline quality — not perfection, but whether it meets the Review's scope and standards.
- If the piece does not require further review, the editorial team will make a direct decision (accept or decline) and notify the writer by email.
- If the piece proceeds, it will be assigned to an editor or reviewer who evaluates the argument, structure, evidence, and writing in full.
- The editorial team may make minor grammar, formatting, or style edits before publication. Major content changes will not be made without the writer's approval.
Timeline: 1–3 weeks, depending on revision rounds
Stage 3
Decision & Publication
After review, the editorial team will make one of three decisions:
- Accepted: the piece is approved for publication. The writer will receive an acceptance email with publication details and final proofing information.
- Revision requested: the writer is asked to revise and resubmit. The writer may choose whether to revise; revised submissions will be reviewed again before a final decision is made. If the writer chooses not to revise, the submission is withdrawn.
- Rejected: the piece will not be published. The writer will receive an email notification.
Total timeline: 2–4 weeks from submission to decision
