Our Commitment

Accessibility

We are committed to making The Formosa Review readable and usable by everyone.

Accessibility Statement

The Formosa Review is committed to ensuring our publication is accessible to all readers, including those using assistive technologies. We believe that access to quality student writing should not be limited by disability, device, or connection speed.

We strive to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This is an ongoing effort — if you encounter any barrier, please let us know immediately.

Current Measures

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
  • Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images
  • Keyboard-navigable interface throughout the site
  • ARIA labels on interactive elements and landmark regions
  • Sufficient colour contrast across all text and background combinations
  • Readable type sizing and generous line spacing
  • No auto-playing media or flashing content
  • Responsive layout that works on screen readers and mobile devices

Limitations & Ongoing Work

As a student-run publication with limited resources, we may not have addressed every accessibility consideration. Our interactive flipbook feature for issue previews may not be fully navigable by keyboard or screen reader — a text-based alternative is available through the article listing below the flipbook on the Current Issue page.

We are actively working to improve accessibility across the platform and welcome specific feedback.

Report an Accessibility Issue

If you experience any accessibility barrier on our site — a page that is difficult to navigate, content that is inaccessible, or a feature that does not work with your assistive technology — please contact us. We take these reports seriously and will respond promptly.
